| DeGaetano can shape a Romantic melody with exceptional skill, clearly a performer in the romantic mold...beautifully articulated, lovingly traced in the late Romantic heroic style. The Washington Post [DeGaetano's] playing of the Rachmaninov Paganini Rhapsody heralded more than a shining, confident mastery of a demanding work; it marked the return of a full-fledged artist. Fresh beauty of Rachmaninov . . . you need to have this recording, even if you have plenty of other Rach 2's and Pags on your music shelf. It will restore your faith in Rachmaninov.

| I was curious about this one . . . I was not disappointed. DeGaetano strikes a fine balance between logic and emotion. He is romantic without excess sentimentality, poised and sensible but not detached and dull. |
